The weeping “Angel of Grief” that adorns Emelyn Story’s tomb in the Cimitero Acattolico in Rome. This is the work of her husband, American sculptor and poet William W. Story. Who could not be moved by such a work of art? I have given the Angel of Grief a completely different environment from the ornate cemetery in which Emelyn Story rests.
Layers and layers beginning with an ochre canvas painted in Corel, tucking in a sketch of mine from homes in Italy, hue/saturation adjustment, curves adjustment, vintage journal pages from my collection, and ending with some dodging and burning.
Lots of play, masking away portions of layers not needed for the composition, and using the unusual. Come over and sit down next to me and I’ll walk you through it!
