“Everybody knows how fallible memory can sometimes be. You remember certain fragments precisely, but as soon as you try to join the fragments together, for a story, there is a certain – not falsification, but a shifting.” ~ Gunter Grass
I think I feel a shifting, too. Since taking a few classes with Julie Prichard and Chris Cozen at The Land of Lost Luggage in Acrylics I’ve come to appreciate the shifting I see in abstract work. I’ve learned some glazing techniques that I’ve already applied to my digital canvas prints to enhance the images coming off the printer.
The Outskirts of Town, above has a little sketch work added. I admit, it is great to get out the paints to push, pull, drag, dribble, and blend. It has been nice to step outside of my artistic comfort zone to see things with “fresh eyes”. What are you wishing to do that is completely different from your current “style”? What is stopping you? Make a plan for something different for the upcoming weekend. Or take a look at the great classes offered at The Land of Lost Luggage. You might find that little “nudge” you need.
